The 2019 ILGA World Conference report is here!

Dear friends, We are excited to launch ILGA World’s report on our 2019 World Conference, and to share it with all of you.

We wrapped together our empowering days in Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand, when we gathered together under the theme “Celebrating the past to liberate our future”.

It was our first World Conference to ever be held in Oceania: with 120 sessions in six days, together we took a deep dive into our common struggle to power progress for all, and we celebrated our first 40 years together.

Gathering together is how we remind ourselves that what unites us is far stronger, and powerful, than those forces trying to break us apart.

We needed a space like this World Conference – our first one to ever be held in Oceania, with a strong Pacific indigenous influence, and our first to ever host pre-conferences on indigenous and sex workers’ rights – to learn from each other, explore, be inspired to push forward.

If 40 years of ILGA history can teach our movement anything, let it be this: united we stand, divided we fall

It is truly inspiring to know that you are working to give back to your communities on the ground, sharing what you have learnt from our global family during our days together!

Executive Director at ILGA World

An event of this magnitude is not possible without the tireless work and the generous support of many.
A heartfelt shout-out and thank you goes to the Host Rōpū (Intersex Trust Aotearoa New Zealand, Tīwhanawhana Trust and RainbowYOUTH), our volunteers, Avenues, and our event photographer Alex Efimoff – as well as to the Chairing Pool, our Board members, and ILGA World staff and interns who kept the conference engines running smoothly.

Most of all, our thank you goes to all the LGBTI activists around the world for the time and energy they commit to advancing LGBTI equality everywhere. We are in this together!
