FAQ

Got a question about the 2022 ILGA World Conference? Your answer might be just a click away!

Please take a moment to read our FAQs.

Before each ILGA World conference, member organisations submit bids to host a conference in their city. During the Conference, organisations  have the opportunity to present their own bid. In the last plenary, the eligible members vote and choose where the next conference will be held.

During the 2019 ILGA World Conference in Wellington,  we received a bid from the It Gets Better Project (IGBP) to host a conference in Los Angeles, and the ILGA World membership voted in favour to hold the conference there.

Since then, ILGA World office in collaboration with IGBP has been working tirelessly to ensure that  we provide as much support as possible to people who require a visa, as well as to ensure that the conference prices are as affordable as possible.

In order to ensure we hold the conference in different regions, we encourage especially member organisations from Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Asia to submit the bids this year.

For each World Conference, ILGA World awards a number of scholarships to human rights defenders, activists, and representatives of ILGA member organisations. The scholarships are offered to provide assistance to people who would otherwise be unable to attend the conference for financial reasons.

For the 2022 ILGA World Conference, scholarship applications opened in November 2020  and closed in January 2021.

Priority is given to activists from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean and the Pacific Islands, although a limited number of scholarships are allocated also to activists from Europe, North America, Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

Scholarships are first automatically scored according to criteria agreed upon by the ILGA World Board and then manually reviewed by Board members. Successful applicants are informed via email and receive support in the visa application process (if necessary), as well as the arrangement of the logistics.

The full scholarship covers visa application, processing fees and associate costs, roundtrip flights to the host city, accommodation in the double-occupancy rooms, conference registration fees and additional daily allowance for incidentals.
