But there are stories that still do not get told enough. And even when they are, they may not always be told in the voices of our communities, and in a way that respects our dignity and safety.
This is why ILGA World, with the support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), is launching an LGBTI photo and video contest to make more of these images available to the world.
Our initiative calls for photographers and video makers around the world to bring to life the power of human rights through their images. We are looking for photos and videos that are sourced in an ethical manner, and that can speak about self- and community-affirmation, euphoria, despair, hope, and human rights advances or setbacks - in ways small and large.
Submissions will be available for ILGA World, our funders and active partners to illustrate their projects under an Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license. A selection of the photos and videos received will be published on the ILGA World website and will be used as an image bank where images will be available to anyone under license. Among all the materials received, ILGA World will also award a prize of EUR 200 to 10 submitted pieces of content, which will be selected by an internal committee of ILGA World staff and Board members.
The photo composition shows two hands tossing a camera in the air, crossed by a rainbow halo.
The text reads "Take part in the ILGA World LGBTI photo and video contest". The ILGA World logo sits at the bottom right of the image
All photos and videos must relate to the LGBTI community and to the work to advance the human rights of LGBTI people. All content must be sourced in an ethical manner. By submitting your images, you confirm that you are their creator and own the copyright to them (or jointly own the copyright with other parties and have their approval to submit them), and you agree to your images being made available under an Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license.
All images must have been taken between 1 January 2022 and 31 August 2023, and must be submitted exclusively via this online form before Thursday 31 August 2023, 23:59 CEST Friday, 15 September, 9 AM CEST (new deadline!).
The 10 selected awardees will be announced in the second half of September 2023, when the photos and videos will be announced on the ILGA World website. Follow this link to read the terms and conditions in full, before taking part in the contest.
