Attending an ILGA World Conference is an extraordinary opportunity to join one of the largest global gatherings of LGBTIacronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people. The deadline to apply for a scholarship for the 2024 ILGA World Conference has now expired. Thanks for your interest in taking part in the event: we received more than 1,000 applications!
Selected scholars will be informed by the end of January 2024, thus giving successful applicants time to work with ILGA World on securing a visa (if needed). Unsuccessful applicants will then have the chance to seek alternative funding and register later as paying participants.

Scholarships are offered to people who would otherwise be unable to attend the conference for financial reasons. Only LGBTIacronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people. A full scholarship will cover visa application, processing fees and associated costs, a roundtrip flight to Cape Town, shared accommodation in a double-occupancy room, conference registration fees, medical insurance, and a small additional daily allowance for incidentals.
Partial scholarships will also be available: if you can partly fund your participation in the 2024 ILGA World Conference, this will allow us to bring more activists to Cape Town. Only a limited number of partial scholarships will be granted.

We particularly welcome applications from activists belonging to groups under-represented within the LGBTIacronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people. While more than one person may apply from any organisation, ILGA World usually only grants one scholarship per organisation. If two applications from one organisation reach the final stages of scholarship approval, we will leave it to the organisation to nominate their representative.

ILGA World will take reasonable measures to ensure successful scholars can attend the conference.
However, please note that any scholarship granted will always remain conditional due to several factors, including but not limited to the situation of the global Covid-19 pandemic, ILGA World securing funding for scholarships, the applicant being granted a visa to access South Africa, the availability of a travel/flights within reasonable cost limits, the ability to get health travel insurance for the scholar, existing or future travel bans by governments, the reasonableness of existing or future vaccine, hygiene and quarantine restrictions. Accordingly, a scholarship may be revoked by ILGA World at any time.
