Session proposals

ILGA conferences are diverse and engaging because much of the content is proposed and run by LGBTI organisations and other partners worldwide. 

The deadline to propose sessions for the 2024 ILGA World Conference has now expired. Thanks for all your proposed contributions to the programme: we received almost 500 session proposals from organisations and individuals alike!

If your proposal is accepted, you will be notified by the end of January 2024.
IMPORTANT: Accepting your proposal does not mean you or other presenters will receive financial support from ILGA World to attend the 2024 Conference. You and other presenters will still need to pay the conference fee, or apply for an ILGA World scholarship, or seek funding to support your participation. If your session proposal is accepted but cannot go ahead, you must inform ILGA World immediately so that your session slot can be given to somebody else.

Session proposals will fall under the following streams:

  • Advocacy (for example legislation, policy, campaigning)
  • Capacity building (for example, training, community building, organising)
  • Research
  • Partnerships
  • Communications
  • Individual & collective healing & care
  • Other

 

Sessions at the 2024 ILGA World Conference will be organised under four main formats:

  • Panel discussion - a panel discussion is a plenary of 3-5 key speakers delivering their points, moderated by a chairperson
  • Seminar/Presentation - a session in which 2-3 presenters share their expertise
  • Interactive workshop - usually, a 1.5-hour session in which participants are led by one or more facilitators in an interactive session
  • Rainbow Talk - usually a 15-minute session in plenary where one or two key speakers deliver their message in a “TED-talk” style presentation. You can see examples from the 2016 ILGA World Conference in Bangkok here

Sessions at the 2024 ILGA World Conference will

  • make a strong contribution to furthering debates that are of relevance to global, regional or local LGBTI activism
  • feature presenters that represent diverse SOGIESC identities/population groups
  • have presenters from different organisations (3 or more), regions (2 or more) or countries (3 or more) - except for Rainbow Talks and interactive workshops
  • be relevant to a diverse and broad range of people
  • be engaging and interactive
  • include multi-disciplinary perspectives
  • promote and provide spaces for intersex people, trans people, bi+ people, LBTIQ women, young people and people from the Global South (amongst others)
  • be aligned with the conference theme -  Kwa umoja we rise!
