ILGA World Conference to go ahead as planned in May 2022

Geneva, 10 November 2021 – The next ILGA World Conference will go ahead as planned in May 2022, the organisation’s Board has announced.

The largest global gathering of LGBTIQ changemakers is confirmed to take place from 2 to 6 May 2022 in LA Long Beach, California, United States – hosted by the It Gets Better Project under the theme “LGBTIQ youth: future present change”.

“Our World Conference will be going ahead, and the health, safety and well-being of all will be at the highest priority,” said ILGA World Co-Secretaries General Luz Elena Aranda and Tuisina Ymania Brown. “In such a challenging moment in history, it is more important than ever that our communities from around the world have a shared and safe space to come together, reconnect, and move forward.”

The logo of the 2022 ILGA World Conference shows a world in rainbow colours: its left half is lit in flames but can also remind the sun, while the right one has the calmer colours of the rainbow. The image reads: “ILGA World Conference 2022 LA Long Beach: LGBTIQ youth – present future change”

Open registration, developing programme

Registration for the 2022 ILGA World Conference is open, and the team is working to prepare a programme as dynamic, thoughtful, inclusive, and diverse as it gets.

“We are thankful for all those who submitted proposals for thematic pre-conferences, and we will be able to announce them soon”, said Julia Ehrt, Executive Director at ILGA World. “As the programme of our World Conference develops, we will continue to look into ways to ensure the largest possible participation from our members and LGBTI communities from across the world – including in digital ways”.

Addressing the Covid-19 situation

As much as we look forward to reuniting with our global LGBTI family, we are also aware of the challenges that Covid-19 brings.

The health, safety, and well-being of all continues to be the priority at ILGA World. Institutional and governmental rules and restrictions for the containment of the pandemic will continue to evolve over the next few months, and we will keep monitoring them closely to accommodate for those regulations.

More details about all safety measures are forthcoming: please check again this page for information about Covid-19 safety measures that will need to be respected while at the 2022 ILGA World Conference.
